LYPTUS WOOD BASES
In keeping with Mori Furniture Design’s commitment to sustainability, all of our wood table bases are fabricated from Lyptus, a wood made from a hybrid of two types of eucalyptus trees. Developed for quick harvesting, and grown on plantations in Brazil, Lyptus is an environmentally friendly alternative to other older growth woods.
INDIA INK
To achieve a true deep black in our wood table bases we use pure India Ink.
Using India Ink we are able to reach an absolute black with absolutely no blue undertones, which are sometimes present in other black dies.
POLY / OIL FINISH
At Mori Furniture Design we mix all of our own poly / oil finish.
A mixture of boiled linseed oil, raw tung oil, and polyurethane varnish,
Our oil finish penetrates deep into the wood, and is not merely a surface finish. The resulting finish is highly resistant to scuffing and abrasion, and is easily repaired by rubbing in more oil or paste wax w/ an abrasive pad.
Regular maintenance of your solid slab table top will require little more than an occasional application of paste wax, which should be applied in a thin layer, and buffed clean with a soft dry rag.
CONVERSION VARNISH
For sprayed finishes on veneered pieces we use only conversion varnish.
Chosen for it’s hardness and protective qualities, it is the only spray finish we use in our shop.
